Self-Editing Tip: Exclamation Points



Exclamation points might be a great way to emphasize emotion in emails and texts, but writers should be sparing with them in works of fiction.

Use exclamation points in dialogue when a character is literally yelling. Otherwise, let a character's body language, word choices, and actions clue the reader in to the strength of his or her emotions.
